Students Who Inspire
Rebecca Hess '18, Multicultural with Multiple Interests
One of eight siblings, Rebecca realized after completing FAFSA forms that she needed to focus on state colleges rather than private schools. When she visited Kutztown University, she immediately felt at home, so she came here to continue studying Spanish and its culture. Her understanding of a multicultural approach grew and she is now a member of KU's Spanish honors fraternity and the organization for Latino awareness, as well as Phi Sigma Sigma and the dance team. Rebecca's enthusiasm brought her the first Class of 1962 Endowed Scholarship to be awarded.
Morgan Rutkowski '18, Leadership: Doing the Right Thing
Morgan has received a four-year full scholarship to Kutztown University through the Enlightened Leaders Scholarship. From Philadelphia, this youngest of three worked her way through high school, mentoring a mentally disabled individual and found it very rewarding. She wants to major in Management and says, "Being a leader means not always making the easiest choice…standing up for what one believes in and often being different from others…doing the right thing." With a KU education, Morgan looks forward to embracing the responsibilities of leadership in whatever field she chooses.
Geoff Pittman '16, Help - Just in Time
Geoff took his time to try several majors before finding his calling in computer science. The downside: he hit his lifetime award limit for Pell Grants and Stafford Loans the semester before he was to graduate. Since he couldn't borrow more or get a private loan, he frantically tried to find the remaining amount due on his account. Just a week before the semester started, he found out he would receive an emergency grant from the Morris and Dorothy Beebe "Just in Time" Student Emergency Assistance Fund created by Kevin Beebe '81 his parents' honor. Geoff should graduate in December 2016 with this help.
