Alumni Giving and Caring Spotlight

Alumni Profile on Scott Dorn '75

DornTo highlight April as the month of Alumni Giving and Caring, especially amidst the current crisis surrounding COVID-19, we caught up with one of our very own, Scott Dorn '75. Few people exemplify being an alum better than Scott, who remains heavily involved with KU, both operationally as well as financially. Read below for his story!

1. When did you graduate, and what did you major in?

I graduated in 1975 with a degree in Business Administration.

2. Can you tell us a little about your career?

I worked the majority of my career at General Electric (32 years). When I retired, I was the Managing Director of Real Estate Services, responsible for global real estate, construction, and corporate facilities operations. I held that position for 18 years. After retirement, I started a consulting firm and have one client – The Carlyle Group, a global Private Equity Company. I work with many of Carlyle's portfolio companies on deal due diligence, portfolio optimization, real estate transactions, and construction projects. In addition, I currently sit on the Kutztown Foundation Board and the Defense Department's Business Advisory Board.

3. How are you involved with KU as an alum today? When did you start being involved?

I am on Kutztown University's Foundation Board of Directors. I am currently the Vice President of the Board, and Chairman of the Real Estate committee. I joined the Board in 2014 after my retirement from GE.

4. What drives you to be involved and give back?

I have many good memories and friends from KU that I cherish. It was a place that helped me grow and develop and gave me a good foundation in business that enabled me to start my career. All that said, once I had the time, it felt right to engage and contribute to the University and its students.

5. What message do you have for alumni that aren't yet involved?

I'd ask alumni to get engaged in some way. The alumni association is always looking for great members, and it gives you a great sense of satisfaction to help the next generation of leaders, artists, musicians, teachers, and the like.
