Director of Communications

The Director of Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive communication and marketing strategy for the Kutztown University Foundation (KUF). This position will serve on the KUF senior leadership team.

Duties & Responsibilities

 

1.   Develop a comprehensive communications strategy for all print, email, social media, and web communications coming from KUF, ensuring that all communications are timely, coordinated and on-point in terms of overarching messaging.

2.   Produce and maintain communications materials, such as printed pieces, development/stewardship reports, press releases, media and other materials designed to increase understanding of the KUF’s mission and vision in alignment with the KU brand.

4.   Oversee production of an accurate, complete, effective and timely annual report.  

5.   Compile and develop content for e-newsletters, websites and social media in collaboration with other foundation team members.   

6.   Work with university marketing and communication staff and outside designers and vendors to research, write, design, and produce donor-oriented publications, including video presentations, PowerPoint presentations, newsletters, brochures, volunteer guides, case statements, solicitation materials, etc.

7.   Coordinate all media relations efforts with KU’s communications staff.  

8.    Attend meetings with the university marketing and communications team, as well as serve on the editorial board for the Tower Alumni Magazine.  

9.   Draft key campaign correspondence, documents and speeches.

10. All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

 

Program Profile & Awareness

1.   Elevate KUF reputation and brand among alumni and throughout diverse communities using all combinations of communications tools.

2.   Build and maintain relationships with internal and external community, media and press representatives to enhance knowledge of best practices and innovative communication techniques.

 

Budget Oversight

1.   Oversee the budget for communications, marketing, and stewardship at KUF.

2.   Provide budget projections for strategic communication efforts.

 

Event Strategy

1.   Assist with planning and the implementation of branded marketing materials for major prospects, stewardship/cultivation events, alumni events, groundbreakings and/or dedications of new/upgraded facilities.

2.   Participate in the review, assessment and recommendations of marketing/communication changes after each event to ensure quality and consistency.

 

Qualifications

1.   Bachelor’s degree in communications and/or marketing.

2.   5-10 years of experience in public relations, communications, and/or marketing.

3.   Excellent oral and written communications skills, ability to write swiftly and eloquently in a variety of genres, voices, and styles (correspondence, newsletters, brochures, case statements, etc.).

4.   Previous communications experience in a fundraising environment, preferably in higher education. Campaign communications experience a plus.

5.   Thorough knowledge of and familiarity with standard desktop software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.  

6.   A working knowledge of and experience in electronic media, including web design and basic HTML functions.

7.   A working knowledge of and experience in the development of print and video materials.

8.   Experience in negotiating for goods and services with graphic designers, printers, promotional marketers, software and hardware vendors, and related service providers.

9.   Commitment to customer service and sensitivity to public relations impact of all development activities.

10.  Ability to relate comfortably to alumni, parents and volunteers, as well as to faculty/staff members, administrators and other staff.

11. Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously.

12. Occasional night and weekend work required.

Student Positions

Student Assistant - Communications & Marketing

Kutztown University Foundation’s Communication Team is seeking a dynamic, driven, confident undergraduate student that wants to gain experience in research, writing and editing skills to join our team. Must have strong communication skills, written and verbal, and knowledge of social media.   This position will create content for the foundation's website, publications and social media, as well as assist with events and other office work as assigned.   Salary is negotiable.  Contact Ben Best at best@kuf.org for more information.
