Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Kutztown University need private donations?

Kutztown University is a public university and a part of the State System of Higher Education.  Funding is provided through a combination of state funds and tuition dollars.   After a decade of decreased state funding, the university has had to make significant cuts to its operating budget. In order to keep the cost of education at a reasonable level, the university depends on the generosity of alumni and friends who donate nearly $4 million each year to scholarships, capital improvements and other student needs.

Can I donate to a specific college or program?

Yes.  The foundation has a wide variety of funds to which you can donate.   You can make a donation to any of the colleges, departments or programs including things like athletics, the marching unit or the multicultural center.   Visit our fund page to find a list of available funds or call us at 610-683-4110 to discuss a program you would like to support.

Can I donate property or other items to the foundation?

The foundation accepts gifts of different kinds; however, some gifts are costly to accept.   Please visit our gift acceptance policy for details.

How can I find out if my employer matches charitable gifts I make?

Is the Kutztown University Foundation a State Agency?

No.  The Foundation is a private non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and all gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.  The foundation is separate from the university and not affiliated with the Commonwealth or the State System of Higher Education.   The foundation has its own board of directors and president.
