Lifelong Learning at KU

Kutztown University now offers free courses for all alumni of the university.   Different classes will be offered each semester on a variety of topics and alumni are welcome to take one or both courses.

These classes are 100% online and will appear on your transcript; however, they may not be used toward a degree program at Kutztown University.   Classes are graded on a Pass/Not Pass basis.  These classes do not count toward any Act 48 credits.  

We are excited to welcome alumni back to Kutztown University for another semester of free online alumni courses!  We are pleased to offer the following two new courses:


Course: ALM 100 - 5010

Course Title: Art, Design & Visual Culture

Professor: Julia Hovanec


Course Description:  Are you interested in art, design, and/or visual culture? If so, this introductory course is for you as it will provide you with exposure to the many facets of the visual arts. You will develop an understanding of and an appreciation of art as a way to enhance the quality of your life and make connections with history, ideas, emotions, and ways of seeing the world around you.



Course: ALM 100 - 3410

Course Title: A Blueprint to Understanding 21st Century New Media
Professor: Kelly McBride


Course Description:  Examines the theoretical and professional approach behind how social media integrates within six genres: writing, gaming, streaming, social, legal, and integrated marketing. 

By the end of the course, students will be able to:  
   - Identify the individual specialties that exist within each sphere, as well as the comparable elements that integrate into one central domain - new media; 
   - Analyze the impact of social media as a primary communication vehicle for the 21st century, and its effect on society;
   - Demonstrate understanding of the model intersections


Courses begin on the first day of the fall semester, currently scheduled for Monday, August 24, 2020. To register for these free online courses, please click on the link below to complete the fillable pdf and return it to the Registrar’s office (  The last date to register for the course is Monday, August 24, 2020.  The deadline date to drop the course and not have it appear on your transcript is Monday, August 31, 2020.





Once you submit your online pdf to the Registrar’s office, you will receive a confirmation email.  Please allow five (5) business days for processing.  You will then receive another email which details further instructions.
